Today, I received an invitation to the Fête du Printemps at Blossom Bilingual Preschool from the school director. We last visited Blossom back in January for their Fête d’Épiphanie but I don’t think Willa was old enough then to have formed a conscious memory of the place and the people there. We have decided to enroll her there three mornings a week, starting in May. Though I fret a bit about how the transition to “school” will go for Willa, she has come such a long way since the Fête d’Épiphanie. Actually, the change in her is incredible now that I am thinking about it. She is visibly becoming herself- her nascent abilities to perceive, remember, and make connections, move, manipulate, and iterate, feel secure, exhilarated, frustrated, and wounded clue me in to her temperament, interests, concerns, and loves.

Many of our friends are surprised at this news because I am very open about my intentions to homeschool. But, I don’t see a contradiction there. It was never my intention to do it all on my own. I believe that in order for us to thrive in our homeschooling experience we need to freely reach out to the community around us for inspiration, expertise and knowledge, and support. I love the Waldorf influence at the school and it will provide Willa with a more immersive experience of the French language than I can provide for her on my own. For my self, I thrill at the thought of having time alone. Introvert that I am, I have been feeling a desperate need for time to be totally silent, surfing along the waves of my thoughts.
