Willa must have woken up on the wrong side of her bed this morning. She is exceptionally whiny, indecisive, and loud. Whew! I suppose we need a reminder, every now and then, of how good we generally have it with her.
What a gorgeous morning, though! The house is pretty clean, a load of laundry is in the machine, and I've plans to make danish dough later today for this week's bake sale. Davis made breakfast tostadas for us this morning- scrambled eggs, cheese, and black beans piled high on fried corn tortillas. Avocado and pineapple on the side. It was luxurious to not have to cook (even though I was just folding laundry).
As I mentioned last week, we've had a full and happy house this past week. John and Nicole, Willa's godparents, are here to stay with us for a couple of weeks. There is, of course, lots more cooking and cleaning to do but, there is also lots more laughter and joviality too. On Thursday, we celebrated the Chinese Harvest Moon Festival with lantern-making, moon cakes, pineapple buns, and scallion pancakes stuffed with hot dogs/eggs, kimchi, arugula, cheddar, and Sriracha mayo.
Willa quickly fell back into an endearing intimacy with them. I am adjusting to a new atmosphere in the house with three working adults in it- all of whom have meeting-heavy workdays. We were all relieved when the weekend could begin and we could spend more leisure time with one another. We watched part of "Paddington" for our family movie night and ordered take-out.
Last weekend, we shopped the sale at Harlequin, a local nursery. We came away with a few red currant bushes and a few blackcurrant bushes. And, one lone St. Theresa grape plant. They're all in the ground and seem to be doing well, all things considered. I am patiently waiting to squeeze in one more round of harvests from the okra, eggplant, and peppers before cutting them down to make room for planting cold weather veg.
We're heading out for a hike now. Il faut en profiter!
